Bada Bagh, Jaisalmer

It is located about 6 kms north of Jaisalmer, on the way to Ramgarh-Tanot road. this 16th century garden complex overlooks the lush mango groves, and is famous for its exquisitely carved royal cenotaphs ( Rajao Ki Chatariya). The glorious golden cenotaphs gleam in the deserts of Jaisalmer and the adjoining garden. The setting of Bada Bagh is dramatically stunning perched on a hillock. The chhatris are the same colour as the desert landscape around them, a dull brown of the sand, and hence, appear like a mirage in the desert., Seeking inspiration from the popular Bada Bagh, Stepwells are also known as great garden in the great Indian desert state of India which is a beautiful structure. The Bag (Garden) was built by Maharaja Maharawal Jai Singh was the one who originally commissioned the construction of Bada Bagh. Royal chhatri cenotaphs constructed by the Jaisalmer royals in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. It served both a utilitarian and spiritual purpose for the people around. A number of people from villages around once filled water from this stepwell.

A Visit to Kuldhara Village

Kuldhara Village, Jaisalmer is one of the most interesting and intriguing attraction sites that you should absolutely include in your itinerary. The village, rich with its fair share of legends and myths, the place where is said to be a spooky and haunted village. The abandoned and eerily beautiful appearance of it, standing solitary amidst the vast stretches of thar desert, lives up to its reputation. There have been stories of ghostly and paranormal activities in and around the village, but like always no one could provide any solid proof of it. Visit it, if you wish to be surrounded by an air of mystery. You will find that the complex is dotted with temple, stepwell, people walking in silence or transfixed to the gallery, Kuldhara village was originally inhabited by Brahmins who had migrated from the Pali region to Jaisalmer and settled down in the Kuldhara Village. The interesting story for a traveller is that a legend says that the residents of the entire area left the place overnight altogether to save their honour and lives from the hands of the tyrannical minister. Thus, the entire area is calm but eerily silent!. A special ‘Gadodhara’ stone pillar is placed when the left the location.
